Department of Public Works
The Department of Public Works maintains all public roads, utilities such as sanitary sewer and water systems, public spaces and parks, streetlights, street trees, sidewalks infrastructure, buildings and grounds.

Streets
Our Department is responsible for 12.51 miles of streets in our Local (5.17 miles) and Major (7.34 miles) Street system. These duties include, but are not limited to, cold patching, storm sewer maintenance, street/traffic sign replacement, street painting and snow plowing/salting. Property owners are responsible for keeping sidewalks clear of snow and ice.
Sewer
The DPW is responsible for the maintenance of sewer and storm lines ranging in size from 4” to 15" in diameter on public property (utility lines on private property are maintained by the property owner). Wastewater treatment is handled at the Leslie Sewage Treatment Plant.
Water
Our Department performs all maintenance on the water transmission system on public property (utility lines on private property are maintained by the property owner). This system consists of approximately 78,288 feet of water mains, approximately 177 valves and approximately 124 fire hydrants. There are also approximately 783 water connections to the system. We are continually replacing old water meters throughout the City.
Parks and Recreation
Service City parks and playgrounds and install new playground facilities and equipment as needed.
Other Functions
This Department is responsible for the City’s composting program which consists of leaf collection in the fall and annual brush pickup.
